Cl02 (Chlorine dioxide) - A summary

Benefits:

1. Cl02 is seven times more powerful than chlorine

2. Cl02 is less expensive than chlorine

3. Cl02 does not flavour the water, as does chlorine.

4. Cl02 Is non- toxic and non-carcinogenic (where chlorine is both)

5. Cl02 destroys all known water-borne bacteria and pathogens (including Cryptosporidium, parvum protozoans, etc.) - where chlorine does not.

6. Cl02 Eliminates toxic metals from supply water.

7. Cl02 Eliminates ARSENIC pollution from groundwater/tube well sourced water, as well as other toxic minerals.

8. Cl02 is most effective in removing odour and taste (usually caused by high organic loading, phenols, humic acid, or sulfides) where Chlorine inputs both odour and taste.

Applications:

1. Cl02 may be used to dose stand-alone tanks in emergency situations

2. Cl02 may be used in existing water treatment plants in place of chlorine with minimal adaptation. Its application does not require highly qualified staff to administer it.

3. Where required ETI Biotech will train the future plant operators to enable them to operate the community water treatment facilities.

4. In the unlikely event that a user may wish to return to the use of chlorine in their water treatment this is a simple procedure reversal. It should be noted that because of the inherent dangers of dealing with chlorine, if a plant reverts to chlorine use then the staff who have to handle this will require additional specialist skills if they do not already have them.

Emergency Water Sources:
In emergency situations, Cl02 can stem all disease caused by contaminated water, whether from traditional natural watercourses or from surface water which has previously been unusable because of pollution from pathogens, algae, or turbidity. The importance of this as a preventative measure at a time when the populace is weakened by trauma is self evident.

Transport:

Transport and handling of Cl02 in its batch production form provides absolute advantages over all other disinfectants used in water treatment, particularly in emergency relief situations and in remote locations, where a strong disinfectant capability is required.
